Are certified diamonds really expensive?

The jewelers usually hike the rates of such diamonds as they are certified by authorities like GIA.

Since the GIA does not mention the price of the certified diamond, the jewelers enhance the prices if you ask for such precious stones. This is because of the assured quality parameters. However, still such prices prove to be affordable in the long run as you can resell the diamond for profit. Whereas, a dubious quality of diamond for engagement ring may not fetch you good prices in the future or you may be in loss as well. Moreover, a certified diamond gives you the piece of mind as against constant worries over the doubts regarding a dubious stone.
